This active little bird looks and acts as if he’s had just a bit too much coffee. He is constantly in motion; chattering endlessly while climbing head-first down tree trunks and across branches looking for the beetles, wasps and ants that make up the bulk of his diet.
The Pygmy Nuthatch is native to the western pine forests and is rarely seen outside of that habitat. He prefers ponderosa and Jeffrey pine, and similar species of long-needled pines. He is a small gray bird with white underneath and a gray- brown crown.
