A well known “foster parent,” the eastern towhee many times will raise the eggs of the brown headed cowbird who has replaced the towhees eggs with its own. With no ability to tell the eggs apart, you can imagine the surprise when they hatch!
Omnivores, the eastern towhee will eat seeds, fruits and insects. They are quite fond of strawberries and millet.
