Abundant in North American prairie grasslands and can also be found in Venezuela, Central and South America. Dickcissels are semi-nomadic and known to stray outside their core range depending upon changes to habitat. They will congregate in huge flocks when it is time for migration.
Dickcissels nest in both linear strips of grass and open grassy areas. You may find them as you take that trip down Route 66 in the grassy areas along the roadside. Dickcissels are easy to identify .They are a small sparrow colored like a meadowlark with a black v on their yellow breast.
