The Calliope Hummingbird is the smallest breeding bird in North America. They may be small, but they are mighty! They eat insects and the nectar of flowers, and will sit on the tips of branches and fly out to catch their prey like a fly-catcher.
Calliope Hummingbirds are found nesting in very cool environments in the northwestern U.S. , and migrate to Mexico for the winter. The males are easy to identify with their green upper parts and white breast with bright magenta “cravat” at the throat. This guy is dressed to impress!
