If you are looking among the tree tops to find this bird, common sense has deceived you yet again. The American tree sparrow eats from the ground, nests on the ground and even breeds north of the tree line!
In the summer you will very rarely see this sparrow as it is found in the far north of Canada eating only insects and not visiting feeders. In the spring and summer months however, the bird is found throughout most of the United states and eats nearly all seeds and fruits, commonly eating from feeders.
